![]() SYCO has been under the management of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) since 2003 and held its premier concert in 2004. SCO’s Music Director Mr Tsung Yeh also resides as the Music Director of SYCO, while SCO’s Associate Conductor Mr Quek Ling Kiong formally conducts the SYCO. SYCO members also receive vigorous training from SCO musicians. Members gain performing experiences through the many concerts staged throughout the year. At the SYCO Outdoor Concert held on 29 October 2005 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the orchestra performed alongside SCO to present well-known traditional Chinese orchestral pieces. The SYCO Budding Talents concert held on 10 December 2005 also showcased the orchestra’s young stars in both solo and ensemble performances. The orchestra also collaborated with local institutions to stage theatrical concerts in 2005. The SYCO performed to a full house at its third and fourth annual concert on 10 June 2006 and 2 June 2007. The orchestra was also invited to perform at the Tainan International Chishi Art Festival in July 2006. The SYCO also staged its debut concert in the Esplanade Concert Hall on 4 September 2006. On 29 March 2007, the SYCO was showcased in SYCO Chamber Recital Concert and on 9 Sep the same year, it put up the Beautiful Sunday Esplanade Concert Performance. The orchestra’s members have had the opportunity to participate in various activities such as workshops and master classes conducted by renowned artistes. Since 2005, the SYCO members have been participating in the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp to enhance their performing skills. In 2005, five members successfully auditioned and participated in the weeklong Hong Kong Youth Music Camp, where they interacted with participants from Hong Kong and Macau, fully subsidized by SCO. Four members joined the camp in 2007. Music Director is Mr Tsung Yeh.
