Moses Gay En Hui
Hailed by The Straits Times as an “excellent young conductor”, Moses Gay’s conducting journey began at age 16, when he earned high praise from renowned Chinese conductor Ku Lap-man, who called him “a rising star of the conducting world”, while conducting Phoon Yew Tien’s The Forge Ahead. He graduated with First Class Honours from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and obtained a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the China Conservatory of Music, both on full scholarship.
Moses Gay currently serves as Associate Conductor of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), Principal Tutor of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Chinese Orchestra, Part-time Lecturer at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Wind-Sough Classical Chamber Orchestra.
Throughout his studies, Gay received tutelage from eminent conductors including Roberto Paternostro, Martin Sieghart, Vance George, Mark Gibson, Leon Gregorian, Wolfgang Doerner, and Marc Trautmann in various masterclasses and as their assistant. He was mentored by Alexander Polischuk at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory and studied under Professor Youqing Yang and Tsung Yeh during his postgraduate studies. In 2011, while studying at the Conservatory, he was appointed SCO’s Conducting Assistant and Assistant Conductor of the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2024, Gay was invited as Guest Conductor by the Macau Chinese Orchestra for their “Summer Vibes” Elites Concert.
Gay studied erhu with the late doyenne Min Huifen and master Zhang Shao, and currently serves as Executive Member of the Singapore Huqin Association. He expresses heartfelt gratitude to Zhang Yuming, to whom he owes his musical journey.
