Refined and deeply expressive, Qu Chunquan brought warmth and poetic nuance to the orchestra's sound. As both composer and conductor, he wove the subtlety of Jiangnan sizhu traditions into the orchestra's voice, enriching its tonal palette with intimacy and lyrical depth.

Known for his rigour and clarity, Xia Feiyun played a pivotal role in strengthening SCO's artistic rigour. His authoritative interpretations helped define a repertoire of contemporary Chinese orchestral works, setting enduring standards of precision and musical excellence.

Music Director (2002–2022)
Bridging Chinese and Western musical traditions, Tsung Yeh led the orchestra onto the international stage. He championed new commissions with a distinct Nanyang character, sharpening SCO's regional identity while positioning it with confidence in the global orchestral landscape.
THE PEOPLE'S CONDUCTOR
Principal Conductor (2023–present)
Affectionately known as the "People's Conductor", Quek Ling Kiong carries forward SCO's legacy with a spirit of openness and connection. Balancing tradition with contemporary sensibilities, he continues to shape an orchestra that is both rooted and relevant, bringing its music ever closer to the community.
