Stay tuned to SCO’s Facebook page for the livestream of the 1st live - audience concert   on 11 September 2020, 8pm

Singapore, 4 September 2020 (Friday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) announced that SCO will stage its pilot concert in Singapore Conference Hall on 11 September 2020 (Friday), 8pm and 12 September 2020 (Saturday), 3pm. Although times are uncertain, SCO is delighted to be part of MCCY and NAC’s pilot programme which allow us to welcome our long awaited audience with mandatory safe management measures. SCO is also the first national arts company to premiere a concert under the live performance pilot.

Not to disappoint audience members who are unable to join us in the venue for the concert due to the limited numbers, we will also be livestreaming the concert on SCO’s Facebook page on 11 September, 8pm, and audience members can watch online in the comfort of their homes.

Singapore Conference Hall will comply with the strict mandatory safe management measures. The duration of the concert is within 1 hour with no intermission.

Other measures include having patrons wear their masks and practice safe distancing at all times. Patrons are seated in a checker-board arrangement, with at least 1 meter apart inside the concert hall. Before entering the Singapore Conference Hall building, all patrons must scan the Safe Entry QR code and go through mandatory temperature screening procedures. Good hygiene practices are advised and hand sanitizers are also provided at the various entrances and exits. Public touch points in the building are disinfected before and after the concert.

In these difficult times, we need the arts and culture to uplift our spirits. Many arts groups have turned to online platforms to spread positivity. SCO Executive Director Terence Ho said: “As soon as artists return to stage, they will bring forth more bold and thrilling works and programmes. Arts is the engine of togetherness and collective sense-making. We strive to transform and excel in the new normalcy, to bring audiences better programmes and music in the SCO Concert Hall. ”

The 1st live audience concert will be conducted by SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh, he said, “It is so wonderful to see audiences return to our concert hall: SCO welcomes you back with open arms. We have prepared great masterpieces for your enjoyment. So please let us bring you into the beautiful dream world of silk and bamboo!”

This symbolic concert filled with well-loved classics will begin with an energetic piece, Celebration Overture. The orchestra will then follow up with an adaptation of the contemplative erhu classic, Reflection of the Moon on Erquan, to represent the challenges faced by all who have been affected by this pandemic. The mood will then be lifted with the piece, Jasmine, a flower which represents positivity and purity – to bring comfort and encouragement to each of us. Last but not least, the evening will conclude with The Celestial Web to symbolize how we are all connected and united in our struggles and triumphs in these trying times.
