Singapore, 3 January 2019 (Thursday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform its first Music Oasis Concert in 2019 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 12 January 2019 (Saturday), 6pm to usher the spring festive. This concert is part of Singapore Botanic Gardens’ 160th Anniversary celebrations. Admission is free.

 

SCO Assistant Conductor Moses Gay will lead SCO in this one-hour concert, opening the concert with a familiar Chinese New Year favourite – Li Huan Zhi’s Spring Festival Overture. The orchestra will also perform Lo Leung-fai’s Spring, a work which expresses the beauty of spring and portrays hope and confidence for the future.

 

SCO will also present the first and fourth movements of Zhang Han Shu’s Beautiful Horqin Grassland(美丽的科尔沁草原)titled By the Banks of Xi La Mu Lun River (西拉木伦河盘)and Prairie Celebration Na Da Mu(草原盛会那达幕)respectively.Law Wai Lun’s rearrangement – Overture from The Wandering Songstress will also be performed in the concert. This work features the best of songs sung by Zhou Xuan, an iconic Chinese singer and film actress, also known as one of China’s Seven Great Singing Stars.

 

Concluding the evening’s concert would be renowned Chinese composer Wang Danhong’s work Ode to the Sun. SCO will perform the fourth movement of the work in the concert – Ode to the Sun.

 

Singapore Botanic Gardens is the venue partner for the SCO’s Music Oasis Concert: Songs of Spring at the Gardens.
