Celebrate Mother’s Day with popular local getai singer Lee Pei Fen and SCO

Singapore, 4 April 2014 (Friday) – SCO’s annual tribute concert to mothers return with a selection of the most beautiful music for mums. Popular local getai singer, Lee Pei Fen, will charm the audience with her amazing vocals! SCO suona and guanzi principal, Jin Shi Yi, will perform a unique suona, kouqinzi and vocal performance to thrill audience. SCO Mother’s Day Concert: Golden Melodies from the Heart will be held on 3 May 2014, 8pm at SCO Concert Hall. SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong conducts.

Lee Pei Fen started singing at getai at the age of 6. She can sing in more than 7 languages and has an average of more than 300 performances per year. She has earned recognition after wining the “Most Popular Female Host” and “Online Popularity Award” at the Getai Star Awards 2013. Lee Pei Fen will debut with the SCO with Hokkien favorites Bang Choon Hong, Sio Bak Chang and Mum, Please Take Care and familiar Chinese songs The Dull Ice Flower and Peking Opera Mask. Mums are bound to sing along with her!

The concert will also present familiar favorites including In Memories of Zhou Xuan (a medley comprising of Moonlight in the Street Corner, Thinking of Him, Song of the Four Seasons, The Roving Singer, Full Moon and Blooming Flowers, Boating Song, Cherish One’s Youth and Betal Palm), The Wandering Songstress Overture and Years Flow as Water – songs in memory of famous “Queen of Hats” Fong Fei Fei.

SCO’s suona and guanzi principal, Jin Shi Yi, will showcase his ability to play two suonas in tandem, the zouqinzi, as well as rap and sing in The Winds of Marina Bay – a piece that depicts the bustling Marina Bay and expresses the hopes of a vibrant future for Singapore. An ensemble of ten SCO musicians will perform Chen Sheng’s One Night in Beijing. Bring your mum and your family to have a heartwarming and special Mother’s Day with SCO!
