Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, on 11 August 2018 (Saturday), 6pm, to celebrate National Day with an evening of works by Singaporean composers in a celebration of all things Singapore. Admission is free.

SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong will lead the orchestra to perform Phang Kok Jun’sSymphonic Floras, a work conceptualised through a series of flora-inspired imagery. This is a work representative of Singapore’s Garden City. The SCO will also perform Sim Boon Yew’sVariations on a Theme of Burong Kaka Tua which features Tan Chye Tiong on the dizi.

The SCO will also present young Singaporean composer Benjamin Lim Yi’s work Memory, featuring Zhang Li on the liuqin, Cheng Ho Kwan Kevin on the sheng and Huang Ting-Yu on the cello. Eric Watson’s Dialouge for Solo Tabla and Chinese Orchestra would also be performed in this concert. Be amazed by SCO percussion principal Xu Fan and musician Benjamin Boo as they perform a dialouge on the tabla and mridangam in this cross-cultural performance.

SCO will also perform Singai Naadu, a familiar piece arranged by Wang Chen Wei; and Phoon Yew Tien’s Variations on Singapura, and Singapore’s favourite National Day theme song Home.
