Singapore, 16 December 2014 (Tuesday) – Welcome the Chinese New Year with Marcus Chin and SCO in this annual favourite Chinese New Year concert – Rhapsodies of Spring – on 30 & 31 January 2015! This concert will be conducted by Music Director Tsung Yeh.
Li Huan Zhi’s merry Spring Festival Overture will kickstart the concert to bring you an abundance of joy! Local celebrity, Marcus Chin, will be the feature star in this concert where he will sing favourite Chinese oldies: The Clown, Song of Cleaning Shoes and Everyone got his talents and Chinese folk songs: The Sun Come out in Jubilance, Under the Silver Moonlight and Xin Huo Lang. The concert will also present comedy-musical skit titled Filial Piety where Marcus Chin will take on the role of a maid, Maria. Together with stage performers Lin Ru Ping (role: grandma), Xu Qiong Fang (role: daughter-in-law), Qiu Wen (role: son) and Zhang Xiong (role: grandson), the skit promises to bring the house on non-stop roaring laughter!
Award-winning Singaporean director Anthony Chen’s short film The Reunion Dinner will also be screened in this concert with live music by SCO! With Chinese New Year Eve as the theme, The Reunion Dinner tells the story of how a Singaporean Chinese family grew over generations over a period of 40 years. Told through the eyes of 10-year-old schoolboy, Boon, from 1970 onwards, it traces the relationship between him and his barber father, Teck. The film is a moving portrait of family life in Singapore, capturing the often awkward, subdued and unspoken love between father and son.
SCO’s sheng musician Zhong Zhi Yue will play Xu Chao Ming and Lu Zai Yi’s Blow Lusheng Sing A Good Harvest and Bob Gaudio’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. There will also be the grand finale sing-along with Marcus Chin with a medley of Chinese New Year songs including In Spring, Wind Blowing, Celebrating the New Year and Spring Returns.
