Singapore, 19 January 2016 (Tuesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) collaborates with the National Parks Board (NParks) to present its community series concert titled A Musical Adventure at Pasir Ris Park! It will be held on 27 February 2016 (Saturday), 6pm at Pasir Ris Park. SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong conducts. Admission is free.

This concert is organised in conjunction with NParks’ Community in Nature (CIN) Initiative, to connect and engage the community to conserve Singapore’s natural heritage. Nature-themed craft and activity booths will also be set up from 3.30pm, and families will be able to participate in an Amazing Race as part of NParks’ CIN Family Day and learn about native biodiversity.

The concert will commence at 6pm with Singaporean composer Tan Kah Yong’s A Musical Adventure. Catch the mynah birds in Huang Chuanshun’s piece, Mynah’s Bath, through interesting interpretation with percussionists Teo Teng Tat, Ngoh Kheng Seng, Wu Xiang Yang and Shen Guo Qin. Enjoy the Saturday evening with other nature-themed pieces including Song of Birds in a Desolate Mountains, The Little Girl Picking Mushrooms, Songs of Insect World and Song of Cicada.

SCO’s dizi musicians will perform local composer Law Wai Lun’s Malay Nursery Rhymes, under music accompaniment by percussionists Tan Loke Chuah and Xu Fan. Have fun listening to SCO’s huqin musicians Li Yu Long and Tan Man Man in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous orchestral interlude piece, Flight of the Bumblebee.

SCO Community Series serves to bring music to your neighbourhood. This popular free concert series reflects SCO’s vision as a people’s orchestra, where high standard performances are brought to the community.

The NParks CIN Initiative aims to engage the community in conserving Singapore’s natural heritage and encourage more active involvement in our City in a Garden vision. More information on the NParks CIN Family Day can be found at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/CINfamilyday
