Be in the mood for Christmas with the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra at Ci Yuan Community Club

Singapore, 17 November 2017 (Friday) Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) will present a Christmas concert on 2 December 2017 (Saturday), 7.30pm at Ci Yuan Community Club. This concert titled Christmas Summer Wonderland will have SNYCO members donning Christmas accessories while they perform an array of winter-themed melodies under the baton of SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong and SNYCO Associate Conductor Moses Gay.

Several SNYCO members will also be taking on the center stage as soloists throughout this concert. Liuqin member Li Xiyue will be performing Liu Xi Jin’s liuqin concerto, Sketches of Northern Nationalities, while erhu musicians Ryan Lim Ming Zheng and Kevin Wo Kheng Pak will be playing a double erhu concerto, Hymn of Wusuli by Liu Xi Jin.

This is also the first time SNYCO performs with the Vocal Associates Festival Youth Choir. Along with the choral singing from the choir and SNYCO, SNYCO harpist Christabelle Sheum Wan Yu will perform Dancing Day by John Rutter. SNYCO will also perform with the Vocal Associates Festival Youth Choir to present Christmas with Johnny Marks. The finale will be a Medley of Christmas Songs by Chen Ning-chi and the world premiere of Christmas Summer Wonderland newly composed by Singaporean young composer Phang Kok Jun.

This concert is co-organised by Ang Mo Kio – Hougang CCC and Ci Yuan Community Club.

The Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) is made up of more than 90 talented musicians between the ages of 11 to 26. SNYCO is managed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Company Limited, and is under the purview of the National Arts Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth since 1 April 2015. SNYCO is under the music directorship of Quek Ling Kiong with Tsung Yeh as the advisor and Moses Gay as the associate conductor. Only the finest musicians are selected to be members through the rigorous auditions held each year. As a National Project of Excellence recognised by the Ministry of Education, SNYCO strives to nurture aspiring musicians into future pillars of Chinese music in Singapore.
