A smorgasbord of exciting works in praise of Singapore’s golden jubilee with the theme “SCO Celebrates SG50” awaits you in the new season! SCO opens the season with a special concert featuring local artistes and talents such as Lim Kay Tong, Robert Fernando, MICappella and Serene Koh on 3 July 2015 (Friday), 7.30pm at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Assistant conductor Moses Gay will conduct Unforgettable Tunes II, a concert to revisit the best classics of Chinese orchestra pieces on 22 August.
Singapore International Competition for Chinese Orchestral Composition (SICCOC)
After two successful competitions in 2006 and 2011, SICCOC is held for the third time this year. A total of 125 composers from 13 countries worldwide have registered, including Mexico, Korea, Australia and Belgium, with 184 registered compositions. The award presentation and concert for the winning compositions will be held on 21 November. Audience will also get to vote for the “Most Popular Composition” piece. SICCOC is proudly sponsored by SCO patron, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
A symposium with sharing from panel of adjudicators and participated composers will be held on 22 November. There will also be thematic presentation by Professor of Musicology, Shanghai Conservatory of Music – Professor Yang Yandi and Malaysian composer Yii Kah Hoe.
This year, SCO wears the hat as a national cultural ambassador for the arts. It sets off to two overseas concerts in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur with the best of SCO’s repertoire. In Hong Kong, SCO will present the well-reviewed silent film concert, The Goddess featuring actress Ruan Lingyu with SCO on the music accompaniment on 17 October; and on 18 October with internationally renowned tenor Warren Mok and celebrated soprano Wu Bi Xia in the symphonic poem Marco Polo and Princess Blue.
