Singapore Chinese Orchestra performs Community Concert at Kim Pong Park

Singapore, 27 February 2019 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) Community Concert goes to the newly opened Kim Pong Park, serenading Tanjong Pagar – Tiong Bahru residents with melodious Chinese orchestra tunes. Titled “SCO @ Kim Pong Park”, this concert will be on 2 March 2019 (Saturday), 6pm at Kim Pong Park, conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. There will also be fringe activities, such as balloon sculpting, designing of drawstring bags and painting of coin banks, free for participation from 4.30pm. This concert is co-organised by the Tanjong Pagar – Tiong Bahru CCC Community Arts and Culture Committee.

Adviser to Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru Grassroots Organisations, Ms Indranee Thurai Rajah, who is also Minister in Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and Education, will be joining residents at the event.

SCO will perform a repertoire of familiar music, easily enjoyable by one and all in the family. They include Spring Breeze Kisses My Face and Tian Mi Mi(春风吻上我的脸 和 甜蜜蜜), Send Me a Red Rose(送我一枝玫瑰花)and Indonesian folk tune Bengawan Solo. Sing along to Phang Kok Jun’s Hokkien Golden Hits Medley(福建金曲联奏)which consists of Hokkien songs like 风真透 (A Strong Wind) 、一支小雨伞 (A Small Umbrella) and开心就好 (Being Happy). Audiences familiar with Cantonese music would also enjoy Sulwyn Lok’s bossa nova twist to the evergreen work Rousing Clouds Chasing the Moon(彩云追月). SCO will also perform Cantonese music Thunder Storm and Drought(旱天雷)and Chow Jun Yi’s composition Lenggang Kangkung.

SCO zhongruan musician Koh Min Hui will perform Wu Jun Sheng’s composition Torch Festival Night (火把节之夜)on the zhongruan while dizi musician Zeng Zhi will perform Little Shepherd(小放牛)accompanied by the SCO.
