SPH Gift of Music presents SCO Community Series: Musical Harmony at Ci Yuan
Singapore, 2 August 2017 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at Ci Yuan Community Club in August to present the SCO Community Series: Musical Harmony at Ci Yuan on 19 August 2017 (Saturday), 7pm at the Ci Yuan Community Club Performing Theatre. SCO Community Series concerts are proudly sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings under the SPH Gift of Music Series. Concert is free admission with tickets.
Under the baton of SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO will celebrate Singapore’s multiracial harmony with pieces of multiracial flavours audience can sing along with. SCO will perform pieces including Indian folk song Paaduvan Vaarungal, and Malay folk song Rasa Sayang. SCO suona and guanzi principal, Jin Shi Yi, will perform the suono and orchestra piece Wukong. SCO konghou musician, Ma Xiao Lan, will perform Yunnan folk song arranged by Gu Guan Ren, Water of the Trickling Stream.
Audience will also get to hear pieces including the Magnificient Sheares Bridge composed by Sim Boon Yew, Love Song 2016 re-arranged by Law Wai Lun, Songs of Insect World re-arranged by Phang Kok Jun, and Fishermen’s Song of the Eastern Seas which was composed by Ma Sheng Long and Gu Guan Ren.
To celebrate National Day, SCO will perform Home composed by Dick Lee, re-arranged by Law Wai Lun; and Voices from the Heart composed by Chen Tian Jin, arranged by Yeo Puay Hian.
